Call for Entries – 14th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival “Edgetales”

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) happily announces the opening of the submissions period for the 14th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival. For one more year we invite young filmmakers to get inspired by this year’s theme, titled Edgetales, and send their film from March the 25h until May the 15th.

On this year topic, we draw inspiration from the theme Edgetales. Edges have been always part of the picture, but society, stereotypes and norms kept on turning their back on them, rendering them obsolete, invisible. It is about time to collect and celebrate the stories of people that live on edges, and give them voice and shed light on them.

Through a collection of ‘edgetales’, the 14th BBB Short Film Festival it will create a shared collective experience that builds and promotes tolerance, inclusivity and creativity, to think on: if and how we could all live, with each other, happily ever after.

Eligible short film submissions:

  • Age: short films by filmmakers up to 35 years old, or older than 35 under the condition that their submitted film is their debut
  • Origin: filmmakers with their origin from a Balkan country or/and their film to be a Balkan production
  • Duration: up to 30 minutes.
  • Genre: fiction, animation, experimental and documentary shorts, as well as video art

All short film submissions will be reviewed by our pre-selection committee consisting of young professionals who participate actively in the film industry. This year’s preselection committee will ensure for one more time a fruitful, strong, quality programme including different gazes on this year’s thematic.

The Festival will award the winners with the BBB BEST FILM award, (1000 €), the BBB FIRST ENTRY award (700€), the BBB Audience Award (300€) and three Special Mentions.

The Competition Programme of the 14th edition will continue its new ritual to travel back after the festival’s completion to Athens, it’s hometown maximizing its visibility to a wider audience.
