13th edition of BBB Short Film Festival – “Untiling” the mosaic

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) announces the 13th edition of Balkans Beyond Borders Short
Film Festival which will take place in Bitola, in October the 19th to 22nd. With title of
inspiration “Untiling” the Mosaic it invites the audience in Bitola to live the BBB spirit and
experience, featuring a comprehensive programme of short films mainly consisting of Balkan
productions and cultural parallel events. All Festival activities will take place at the NI Center
for Culture – BITOLA. This year’s Festival in Bitola is a co-organization with SFERA
International organization. The Jury consists of the awarded directors, Dina Duma from North
Macedonia and Thanasis Neofotistos from Greece as well as Jelena Miseljic, cultural
professional from Montenegro. The awards are sponsored by the Ministry of culture of North
The programme of the Festival consists of: film screening sessions from 18:00 to 23:00 as well
as parallel activities such as workshops, round tables, photo marathon, photo exhibition and
networking activities. The Screenings Programme features the Competition Programme
evaluated by a multinational Preselection Committee, the BBB Focus: Switzerland (Fantoche
Animation Film Festival), a tribute to North Macedonian and Greek short film making as well as
a tribute to Vjosa Berisha, awarded director and Festival director from Kosovo. Balkans Beyond
Borders will create for one more time a cultural and inspirational hub forming a stage of fruitful
collaborations, skills strengthening and cultural diplomacy preserving the region’s cultural
Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival is an annual thematic short-film festival that takes
place in a different European city every year with a special focus in South-Eastern Europe.
Therefore, it engages new audiences and promotes inter-Balkan cooperation. In its 12 years
journey it has taken place in Belgrade, Tirana, Athens, Bucharest, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, Sofia,
Brussels, Novi Sad, again Athens, Izmir (online edition) and Pristina.

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) is a cultural non-profit organisation based in Athens, Greece.
BBB aims at building tolerant, inclusive and democratic societies, with a special interest in the extended Balkanregion. Driven by art, BBB actions include an annual film festival, socio-cultural events, seminars, open discussions and collaborations with academics and professionals from the cultural, socio-political and art sector and film industry. Therefore, BBB acts as a stage of cultural diplomacy and regional cooperation in the Balkans introducing innovative mechanisms of collaborations and Balkan culture. For its activities, it has been awarded in 2011 by the European Parliament with the Charlemagne Youth Prize for our innovative Festival, the youth mobility initiatives and its focus on building the European idea and in 2018 with the Civil Society Prize of the EESC – European Economic and Social Committee.
SFERA INTERNATIONAL is an NGO from Bitola, North Macedonia which has been active in the youth field for over 15 years. The general goal of SFERA INTERNATIONAL – Bitola is to educate the population in N. Macedonia, about the protection of the environment, cultural and natural heritage, and raise the awareness of all age groups about the importance of healthy lifestyle and the benefits that come with it. The projects that SFERA has been working on address a large variety of topics such as: environment protection and recycling, sport and health, art and creativity, youth work and counselling, fighting youth unemployment, social inclusion, discrimination and prejudice, leadership and democracy, digitalization and developing digital skills. As part of its operations, Sfera cooperates with universities and other educational and cultural institutions, state institutions, international and local organizations and NGOs to achieve its work goals.
