UNFOLD Project – 17th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival

Unfold Project concludes in Athens with an open dialogue on how art can reshape public space

14 November 2026, 12:00–15:00

Twelve artists, five cities and three international organisations meet at the Greek Film Archive Foundation on 14 November, as part of the 17th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) will bring the European project Unfold to a close on Saturday 14 November 2026, 12:00–15:00, at the Greek Film Archive Foundation (Tainiothiki tis Ellados) in Athens, with an open dialogue and networking event on artistic interventions in public space. Held as part of the 17th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival and supported by the Ministry of Culture, the event presents the work of 12 artists who created interventions in dialogue with local communities in Greece, Serbia and Portugal.

Titled Unfold Project: Art Unfolds Public Space into an Open, Experiential Journey as Catalyst for Urban Transformation, it is the project’s final action. It creates a platform for exchanging experiences and good practices among the artists, three cultural organisations and stakeholders in Athens, and asks how art can respond to contemporary urban and social challenges.

The discussion will look at the challenges artists and cultural professionals face when organising events in public spaces, how artistic interventions can contribute to urban transformation and environmental sustainability, and whether community participation should be an essential part of a successful intervention. Active participation of local stakeholders can become the basis for new works and collaborations, locally and across borders, and for shared narratives on how art can help transform cities and society.

About Unfold

In Greece the project takes place in Autumn 2026 in three stops: Kalamata, Kozani and Athens. It is co-funded by the European Union and implemented by Klara i Rosa (Serbia), Iminente (Portugal) and Balkans Beyond Borders (Greece). More at https://unfoldproject.eu/
