BBB Bests 2025 and more are going to Thessaloniki in collaboration with PHĒNO

A thematic selection of 3 films from the competition programme of the Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival 2025-26 and award-winning films of the 16th BBBSFF – “BBB Bests 2025” are coming to Thessaloniki on Friday 5/6 and Saturday 6/6 respectively in collaboration with PHENO, a space for creative artistic practices, to be a springboard for dialogue and reflection.

Every year, selected films from the festival’s Competition programme travel to different cities in Greece, creating meeting places around contemporary Balkan cinema, the personal stories and social narratives that shape our everyday lives, and giving creators the opportunity to share their films with new audiences.

Balkans Beyond Borders is a mobile platform for cinema and cultural exchange that for 16 years has been bringing together creators, communities and cultural institutions from the Balkans and beyond, through screenings, discussions and participatory events.

The BBB X Conversas screening – Friday 5/6 includes the short films:

  • Marked. – Yoline Suzanne Trieneke Bourdon, Chang-yung Choi, Konstantinos Giatras
  • SIX – Leoni Xerovasili
  • Circle of Violence – Andreas Lazidis

The Conversas is a series of informal meetings held twice a month, with the aim of getting to know each other and discussing ideas, projects and interests. It is an open and equal space for dialogue and exchange of thoughts and experiences, where in each meeting three people present something they want to share with the community (works, questions, projects or research topics), with each presentation followed by a discussion of approximately 30 minutes.

The “BBB Bests 2026” screening – Saturday 6/6 includes the short films:

  • Write My Name — Deya Ar & Begüm Aksoy (BBB Best Film)
  • The Tie — Çamran Azizoğlu (BBB Audience)
  • The Journey of a Mattress — Lina Pavlova (BBB New Entry)
  • Chicken Broth Soup — Deniz Büyükkırlı (Special Mention)
  • Cats Have No Roots — Anthoniy Hristov (Special Mention)

The films were presented as part of the 16th edition of the Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival under the theme Distortopia, or how do you mirror reality, which focused on the distorted realities of modern life, on social constructions, raising questions about the narratives that shape our perception of justice, identity and the power of the image.
