Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) is happy to announce the extension of the submissions period for the 14th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival until the 25th of May! Having received a good deal of shorts from all the Balkan region and beyond we want to give to more filmmakers the opportunity to reach the international audience of BBB Short Film festival and improve the balance of representation among the Balkan countries.
This year we are inspired by the theme Edgetales. Inviting even more filmmakers with diverse and creative short films, to collectively share tales, images, voices and experiences, which are about time to be made visible and celebrated, we want to enrich our “edgetales” collection.
Eligible short film submissions:
- Short films by filmmakers up to 35 years old, or older than 35 under the condition that their submitted film is their debut
- Filmmakers with their origin from a Balkan country or/and their film is a Balkan production
- Up to 30 minutes in duration
- All genres be it fiction, animation, experimental and documentary shorts, as well as video art
- Short films relating to and/or inspired by the festival’s topic Edgetales
The theme of the 14th BBB Short Film Festival: Edgetales
Edges have always been part of the picture, but society, stereotypes and norms keep on turning their back on them, rendering them obsolete, invisible. It is about time to collect and celebrate the stories of people that live on edges, give them voice and shed light on them. Through a collection of ‘Edgetales’, the 14th BBB Short Film Festival will create a shared collective experience that builds and promotes tolerance, inclusivity and creativity, and invites us to think on: if and how we could all live, with each other, happily ever after.
Destination: Nikšić, Montenegro
The destination for the 14th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival will be the city of Nikšić, Montenegro, where we are going to expand the BBB growing community of artists, researchers, journalists, and partners in the region and create a new BBB experience. The Competition Programme of the 14th edition will continue its new ritual to travel back after the festival’s completion to Athens, its hometown, maximizing its visibility to a wider audience.
