15th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival
-Human Traces-
The 15th Inter-Balkan Short Film Festival Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB), with the theme Human Traces will be held on Spetses from 09 to 12 October having in his luggage a rich program of short films and a series of parallel actions that will create a framework for creative coexistence, dialogue, networking and skills strengthening. This year’s edition develops around the theme of Human Traces highlighting new perspectives and narratives of young filmmakers from the Balkans, who capture the traces of the past and present combined with our relationship with place, environment and social ferments.
The 15th BBB SFF through thematic Human Traces seeks through the Competitive and non-competitive program and them parallel actions to discuss the environment as an integral part of human socio-cultural reality and how intangible heritage is shaped within it. Centering on place as the built and natural environment that gives meaning to and is given meaning by people and the multidimensional identities we all carry, filmmakers and guest speakers and educators share stories that emerge from their interaction with place. The aim is to highlight the contribution of the place to the formation of human identity, the role of man in the formation and change of the natural and urban landscape, as well as the challenges that the inhabitants of an island must face.
The 15th Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival is launching the BBB Cross-European Screening with simultaneous screenings of the program of the opening day in the cities: Tirana (Albania), Bitola (North Macedonia), Niksic (Montenegro), Veliko Tarnovo (Bulgaria).
The Competition program with 28 films by filmmakers under the age of 35 from the Balkans competing for the prizes: BBB Best Film (€1000), BBB First Entry (€500), and BBB Audience (€300). The jury of the 15th BBB SFF consists of Alba Cakali, Dokufest festival producer from Kosovo, Alexia Tsouni, director and activist from Greece and Fabio Bego, academic festival program manager from Albania.

10.00-11.30 Open discussion: Cinema as a Tool for Emancipation and Social Transformation
12.00-14.00 Round table aiming to explore the role of culture and cinema in island sustainability and addressing the climate crisis.
They will take place at the Kapodistrian School, Spetses
BBB in the neighbourhood – Spetses: ”Empowering Youth Through Cinema and Environmental Awareness”: Creative audiovisual workshops and filmmaking marathon for teenagers and young people with a presentation of the participants’ creations to the public.
